Tony Prato and Dan Fagre will be presenting a poster at the
2007 Parks, Peace and
Partnerships Conference to be held September 9-12 in
Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. The poster,
entitled Sustaining Rocky Mountain Landscapes: A Focus on the
Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, will summarize a
two-year effort to assess the state of natural resources, human
impacts, and management approaches in the Crown of the Continent
Ecosystem (CCE) that is shared between Canada and the U.S.
At the core of the CCE is the Waterton-Glacier International
Peace Park where much of the effort was focused. As the world's
first peace park, the transboundary cooperation between the two
parks and their countries has provided a role model for other
peace parks and also has been critical to long-term
sustainability of the regional landscape. The recently published
book that summarizes the assessment has 39 authors from Canada
and the U.S., representing numerous perspectives and
disciplines.
The conference will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the
Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. |
